FORTRESS UNITIES

Taking the isolated land of Kythera as a point of departure, the new thematic unit offers an artistic exploration of the island’s fortress architecture and its layered history.

The different unities of the work refer both to the island’s settlements and to the deep, almost organic relationship between architecture and the natural landscape, while also exploring human presence and its imprint on the Greek landscape.

The artist’s gaze focuses on the fortified architecture of Kythera, bringing it to the forefront of the compositions. The morphological elements of the buildings are at times highlighted under the blinding midday sun, and at others gently fade into the shadows of the afternoon light, creating distinct chromatic units and shifting atmospheres.

Color plays a central role, as the compositions are approached through the lens of light and a tendency toward abstraction. The result balances between the explosive energy of the landscape and its quiet serenity, endowing the works with an inner depth that transcends their material form.

Through the silent strength of the forms and the poetic use of color, the works acquire a contemplative, almost spiritual quality—engaging in a dialogue with time, memory, and the intangible essence of place.
